How Marine Boat Lifts Work

When you have a boat, you want to protect it. The best way to do that is to invest in a lift. But do you really know how one works and how it will keep your vessel safer?

We have the answers at Vogell Marine, Inc., and we’re happy to provide them so you can choose the best option from the wide range of marine boat lifts on the market.

As the name implies, boat lifts use a motorized or hydraulic system to raise and lower a vessel. A cradle made of beams, spars, or sometimes even straps, supports the boat during the operation. The key to using a lift is not to be in a hurry. You are going to want to place it gently on the cradle and then very slowly raise or lower it as the case may be.

This raises another question. Why would you want to take a boat out of the water with a marine lift?  The answer is multifold. You may want to lift the boat to clean it or do repairs. You also should raise your vessel to protect it from algae growth and corrosion. If you don’t plan on using your pleasure craft for an extended period, then you’re going to need to store it, and that means relying on a marine boat lift.
